What is Strikeball?
Strikeball is an activity requiring the use of replica firearm that propels plastic BBs to simulate real combat engagements. Strikeball is used in law enforcement training, military simulation, private security engagements, recreational gaming, and as collectors activity. Stikeball is a legal, insured, and regulated alternative for the professionals/enthusiasts worldwide to train and recreate real life combat scenarios without the cost and danger of using actual firearms. Strikeball is a trademark of MiR Tactical Inc.
What is a Strikeball Replica Firearm (SRF)?
Strikeball Replica Firearm (SRF) is a look-a-like clone of its real life counterpart. The look, feel, and functionality are matched as closely as possible to the original firearms to provide complete realistic experience to the user. SRFs propel 6mm or 8mm plastic pellets (BBs) by utilizing the power of battery, air, or manual (spring) power. The internal components are modified to accept required engines and may vary depending on style, manufacturer, or other brand specific details. Plastic BBs can reach muzzle velocity up to 600 feet per second, thus decreasing potential harm to the involved participants as long as proper safety equipment is used.
What is the difference between Strikeball & Airsoft?
Strikeball implies the use of regulated guidelines, insured fields, and legal event’s promoters. Additionally, Strikeball events and simulations follow developed scenario structure, thus increasing participant’s experience throughout the process. Safety regulations strictly followed at all times to minimize the risks associated with the involvement in action sports.
History
Strikeball was introduced in United States during year 2011, as MiR Tactical Inc was looking to provide legal and safe alternative to the Airsoft community. With no governing body overseeing Airsoft activities, it would not be uncommon to find participants in the unsafe and illegal environments that would endanger themselves and community around them. Unification and national recognition of the sport was needed to ensure growth of the industry that provides excellent training resources to the brave men and women serving our country. Nowadays, Strikeball is being used by multiple federal agencies and local law enforcement department to provide tactical training on the budget. Strikeball is one of the fastest growing action sports in the world.
What is Airsoft?
Airsoft is primarily a recreational activity with replica firearms that shoot plastic BBs that are often used for personal collection, gaming (similar to paintball), or professional training purposes (military simulations, a.k.a. MilSim, and police training exercises). A primary difference between airsoft guns and BB guns is that an airsoft gun uses a 6mm or 8mm plastic pellet and has a muzzle velocity of typically less than 180 meters per second (600 feet per second); which is generally considered safe when used in a controlled environment and with safety equipment like protective eyewear. A metal or alloy BB on the other hand, is projected at higher velocities (120-365 m/s) (400–1200 ft/s) or higher making them unsuitable for gaming and training purposes. Another distinguishing factor between BB guns and airsoft guns is that airsoft guns generally have some sort of "hop-up" mechanism that creates a back-spin on the BB to increase its accuracy and effective range. This hop-up feature is needed due to the light weight of the plastic pellet causing the plastic BB to otherwise fly uncontrollably, reducing its effective range. Airsoft games vary greatly in style and composition depending on location, budget, and the quantity of participants but often range from short-term skirmishes and organized scenarios to military simulations and historical reenactments. Gaming with Combat situations on a mock battlefield mainly involve the use of common military tactics to achieve the objectives set in each game. Participants typically use varying types of airsoft weaponry along with either real or replica military gear and uniforms.
What is MilSim?
MilSim is an abbreviation of Military Simulation, and refers to military simulations conducted by civilians for entertainment purposes. There are several forms of MilSim: airsoft games, paintball games, and video games simulating military scenarios and tactics. Weapons used in MilSim are commonly airsoft or paintball guns. Airsoft guns are used more often in MilSim than paintball guns due to their availability as replica weapons without any modification. Paintball guns commonly require modification to be considered a replica; the basic components of paintball guns often inhibit the ability to convert them to replica weapons such as the hopper or gas tank. These components can be hidden or modified such that they do not interfere with the appearance of the gun. MilSim most often falls into two different categories: reenactment and simulation. Reenactments focus on a particular event in history and aim to provide the most accurate representation of the time period, events and outcomes of the historical event. Simulation however may only focus on a particular time period and representation of which course a particular situation may have taken in history. In most cases a simulation event includes fictitious characters, groups and political situations.
