AIRSOFT GAS MAGAZINES
Airsoft Gas Magazines for GBB Rifles & Pistols
A gas magazine is doing double duty, holding your BBs and storing the propellant that cycles the gun, and getting the fill and storage routine wrong is the single most common way players damage seals and lose performance. We carry airsoft gas magazines for green gas and CO2 GBB platforms.
What does an Airsoft Gas Magazine Do
A gas magazine stores both a BB column and a compressed propellant reservoir, green gas or CO2, in one body. That propellant is what cycles the slide or bolt on a GBB platform, meaning the magazine itself is doing mechanical work beyond simply holding ammo.
How to Fill an Airsoft Gas Magazine
Hold your green gas can upside down and tilt the magazine at roughly a 45-degree angle, filling for 3 to 5 seconds for a pistol magazine or 10 to 15 seconds for a rifle magazine. Avoid overfilling: liquid gas needs room to expand, and overfilling leaves no space for that expansion, causing low FPS, liquid purging out the valve, and seal damage over time.
Loading BBs Into an Airsoft Gas Magazine
Use a speed loader and press the follower spring down carefully while loading, rather than forcing BBs in without controlling the follower. This prevents misfeeds and protects the magazine's feeding lips from damage during the loading process.
Airsoft Gas Magazine Maintenance
Regularly apply a drop of silicone oil to the fill and output valves to keep the rubber O-rings supple and leak-free. Keep the BB channel itself clean by clearing dirt and debris with a brush or rubbing alcohol, since a dirty channel causes feeding friction that gets worse over time if ignored.
Storing Airsoft Gas Magazines
Green gas magazines should be stored with a small amount of gas left inside to keep the seals pressurized and supple. CO2 magazines are the opposite: store them completely empty to prevent pressure-related seal damage from CO2's higher operating pressure sitting unused over time.
What to Look for in an Airsoft Gas Magazine
A few details determine whether a gas magazine holds up over repeated use.
Propellant Compatibility
Confirm whether the magazine is rated for green gas, CO2, or both, since running the wrong propellant can damage seals not built for that pressure.
Seal Quality
Look for magazines with quality O-rings and valve seals, since these are the parts most likely to wear or leak first.
Platform Fit
Gas magazines are built for specific gun platforms. Confirm compatibility before ordering rather than assuming a universal GBB fit.
Airsoft Gas Magazine FAQ
How long should I fill my gas magazine?
Roughly 3 to 5 seconds for a pistol magazine, 10 to 15 seconds for a rifle magazine, tilted at about 45 degrees with the can upside down.
What happens if I overfill my gas magazine?
Liquid gas has no room to expand, which causes low FPS, liquid purging out the valve, and long-term seal damage.
Should I store my magazine with gas inside or empty?
Green gas magazines should keep a small amount of gas inside to protect the seals. CO2 magazines should be stored completely empty due to their higher operating pressure.
Why is my gas magazine feeding inconsistently?
A dirty BB channel is a common cause. Clean it with a brush or rubbing alcohol, and check that you're not overfilling gas, which also affects feeding consistency.
How often should I lubricate my gas magazine's seals?
Regularly, a drop of silicone oil on the fill and output valves periodically keeps O-rings soft and prevents the leaks that come from dried-out rubber.
