TAPPET PLATES
Airsoft Tappet Plates | Feeding and Timing Parts for Every Gearbox
The tappet plate is what pulls your nozzle back and releases it forward on cycle, and its timing against the sector gear determines whether your gun feeds cleanly or jams. We carry airsoft tappet plates in reinforced POM and CNC-milled builds across major gearbox versions.
How an Airsoft Tappet Plate Works
The tappet plate attaches to the air nozzle on one end and features a flat arm or fin that contacts a timing cam on the sector gear. As the sector gear spins through its cycle, that cam pulls the tappet plate back, retracting the nozzle and letting a new BB rise up from the magazine. A small spring then snaps the plate forward again, pushing the BB into the hop-up chamber and sealing the nozzle before the shot fires.
Airsoft Tappet Plate Timing Issues
High-speed setups, including DSG builds, or short-stroked gears can throw off the timing between the sector gear's cam and the tappet plate's release point, leading to feeding failures or inconsistent FPS. A common fix on these builds is a delayer chip installed on the sector gear, which keeps the nozzle open slightly longer to give the BB enough time to properly seat before the next cycle begins.
Airsoft Tappet Plate Materials
Stock plastic tappet plates can snap under high stress or a high rate of fire, particularly on builds pushing beyond stock spring weight or cycle speed. Reinforced POM or CNC-milled tappet plates offer meaningfully better strength and hold up longer under that added stress.
Airsoft Tappet Plate Fitment Notes
Most standard Version 2 tappet plates fit without issue, but some aftermarket fins may need slight filing or shaving for perfect feeding on a specific gun, since small manufacturing tolerance differences between brands can affect exact contact timing.
What to Look for in an Airsoft Tappet Plate
A few details determine whether a tappet plate upgrade solves a real problem rather than introducing a new one.
Gearbox Version
Confirm compatibility with your exact gearbox version before ordering.
Material
Reinforced POM or CNC-milled plates resist snapping under high-stress or high-rate-of-fire builds far better than stock plastic.
Fit Verification
Be prepared to test-fit and lightly adjust an aftermarket plate if feeding isn't perfectly clean on first install, rather than assuming a factory-perfect fit every time.
Airsoft Tappet Plate FAQ
Why is my gun feeding inconsistently after a gearbox upgrade?
Tappet plate timing against the sector gear's cam is a common cause, especially on high-speed or short-stroked builds. A delayer chip can correct timing that's become too tight.
Do I need a metal tappet plate?
If you're running a high-stress or high-rate-of-fire build, a reinforced POM or CNC-milled plate holds up significantly better than stock plastic, which is prone to snapping under that load.
What's a delayer chip?
A small part installed on the sector gear that keeps the tappet plate's nozzle open slightly longer, giving the BB time to properly seat on high-speed or short-stroked builds where standard timing is too tight.
Will any Version 2 tappet plate fit my gun?
Most do without issue, but some aftermarket fins may need slight filing or shaving for perfect feeding due to small manufacturing tolerance differences.
Can a broken tappet plate stop my gun from feeding entirely?
Yes. Without a working tappet plate cycling the nozzle correctly, BBs won't feed from the magazine into the hop-up chamber at all.
