Airsoft MOSFETs and ETUs | Trigger Protection and Response Upgrades
A MOSFET takes the high-amperage load your battery and motor put on your trigger and reroutes it somewhere that can handle it. It's one of the highest-value upgrades on any AEG, protecting parts you'd otherwise burn through and often improving how the gun feels to shoot. We carry airsoft MOSFETs and ETUs across basic and advanced feature sets.
Why Do You Need An Airsoft MOSFET
A traditional mechanical trigger passes the full current draw from your battery straight through its own small contacts, which spark and build up carbon deposits over time, especially with higher-voltage batteries like 11.1v LiPos. A MOSFET is an electronic switch that reroutes that high-amperage current directly to the motor instead, letting the trigger contacts handle only a small signal current rather than the full load.
How an Airsoft MOSFET Improves Trigger Response
Beyond protecting your trigger contacts, a MOSFET reduces electrical resistance in the firing circuit, which delivers a faster, crisper trigger response and can modestly improve rate of fire compared to running current straight through worn mechanical contacts.
Airsoft MOSFETs vs. Electronic Trigger Units (ETUs)
A basic MOSFET focuses purely on current protection and response. An ETU, or electronic trigger unit, builds on that foundation with additional features: active braking to stop the motor precisely, low-battery warnings, pre-cocking for faster first-shot response, and programmable burst-fire modes not available on a stock mechanical trigger.
Do You Need an Airsoft MOSFET?
If you're running a higher-voltage LiPo battery, a MOSFET is close to essential for protecting your trigger contacts from the carbon buildup that comes with that higher current draw. Even on a lower-voltage NiMH setup, a MOSFET still offers meaningful protection and response benefits, just with somewhat less urgency than on a high-voltage build.
What to Look for in an Airsoft MOSFET or ETU
A few details determine whether the unit fits your build and delivers the features you want.
Wiring Type
Confirm whether you need a version built for your gun's existing wiring configuration, since some MOSFETs require rewiring while others are designed as more direct drop-in replacements.
Feature Set
Decide whether you just want current protection or also want programmable features like burst fire and pre-cocking, since that determines whether a basic MOSFET or a full ETU is the right fit.
Gearbox and Battery Compatibility
Check the unit's rated compatibility against your specific gearbox version and battery voltage before ordering.
Airsoft MOSFET FAQ
Do I need a MOSFET if I run a LiPo battery?
Strongly recommended. Higher-voltage LiPo batteries put more strain on mechanical trigger contacts, and a MOSFET protects against the carbon buildup and burnout that causes.
What's the difference between a MOSFET and an ETU?
A MOSFET focuses on current protection and trigger response. An ETU builds on that with extra features like active braking, low-battery warnings, pre-cocking, and programmable fire modes.
Will a MOSFET increase my rate of fire?
Modestly, by reducing electrical resistance compared to running current through worn mechanical contacts. It's not a major rate-of-fire upgrade on its own, but it does help.
Can I install a MOSFET myself?
Many players do, though it does involve some wiring work inside the gearbox. If you're not comfortable with that, our tech repair and upgrade service can handle installation.
Do I need a MOSFET on a low-voltage NiMH setup?
It's less urgent than on a high-voltage LiPo build, but still offers meaningful trigger contact protection and response benefits.
