On most replicas, the charging handle connects to a small spring-loaded mock bolt or dust cover inside the upper receiver. M4 and M16 Charging Handles
The M4/M16 charging handle sits at the back of the upper receiver in the classic T-shaped profile. AK-pattern charging handles work differently than M4 handles. Instead of a T-bar at the rear of the upper, an AK charging handle clamps or pins onto the bolt carrier near the dust cover, and it moves with a distinct rearward pull that's part of the AK's whole manual of arms. Most players looking at an AEG AK charging handle are either replacing a worn stock piece or stepping up to an extended charging handle for a bigger, easier grip surface under gloves. Pistol and SMG Charging Handle Extensions
Compact GBB pistols and SMG platforms use a smaller charging handle extension rather than a full rifle-style handle. These bolt onto the existing slide or bolt and give you more surface area to grip under pressure, which matters most on pistols with a short, low-profile stock charging surface that's easy to fumble during a fast reload.
AEG vs. GBB Compatibility
Gas blowback rifles and AEGs use completely different internal charging handle structures, even when the external shape looks similar.
