Highlights from Vega Force Company’s Collection

Jul 28th 2020

There are a number of names that every player in airsoft has heard of at least once, if not a million times. Umbrella Armory, Lancer Tactical, KWA, and Elite Force are only a few of these. Though you may not have recognized it from the title of this article, another equally undying name in airsoft is Vega Force Company, better known as VFC, and creator of legendary brands such as VFC Avalon, Stark, Crusader, and QRS, among others.

Part of what makes VFC so legendary among airsoft players from all different backgrounds is that their equipment is ridiculously solid-built, can take a beating, delivers a good to excellent performance by a number of metrics, and for the most part, is priced to please. If you can’t find something in VFC’s collection to like, the problem may be with you and not with VFC.

Admittedly, some of the best picks from Vega Force Company’s catalog are in AEGs, and many of their most popular models are carbines such as the ones we’re going to explore, but VFC makes a lot more than just these. If you have a chance to take some time and get familiar with their collection, make sure you do so. Some of the features will jump at and surprise you. Either way, any collection of AEGs or VFC airsoft guns would be honored by the inclusion of one or more of these highlights from their collection.

VFC Avalon VR16 Carbine AEG

We’ve stated in previous articles that there is no one size fits all approach in airsoft and that different players, and different tactics, will be better served by the gear that is most specialized to their use. While that is true in any scenario, we are confident that some of these AEGs will service surprisingly well in a number of different scenarios, especially as supporting arms covering players using more specialized equipment like bolt rifles or heavy automatic airsoft guns.

This rifle features a lot to love for a number of reasons, to the point that is so built up with user-friendly features that it’s difficult to succinctly summarize them all. This airsoft AEG is modeled on the M4/M16 platform and has a lot of features that other rifles, especially below this price point, lack.

It has a full metal receiver and barrel assembly along with an M-Lok handguard and a full-length aluminum rail as well as a short section of quad rail near the muzzle. It also comes with a VFC QRS adjustable crane stock and M16A2 sights.

In terms of performance, this rifle comes ready to roll with a high-torque, long type motor and version 2 fully upgradeable all-metal gearbox for surprisingly hot performance even under long term use. Unlike plastic internals which can melt, break or deform under heat and pressure, this rifle’s internals are built for the long haul.

It’s capable of reaching muzzle velocities closing in on 400 feet per second, which is right about where you need to be for most AEG rifles, but at the same time, it features an adjustable hop-up so you can make your shots reach out over surprisingly long distances.

To go into a little more depth regarding some of the features, you can see that this rifle is geared for performance, no pun intended. It’s built with a number of features that accommodate the shooter, such as its adjustable stock and flip-up sights. You can easily shoot over the open sights or fold them down and add a reflex sight or a scope to the rail because there is generous space provided along the upper receiver. There is also a ton of space along the handguard for mounting attachments and it comes with sling points so you can attach a sling if you so desire. Also, although it has a fairly long barrel and handguard, most of the weight is concentrated around and above the grip in the receiver, which makes this rifle very fast and responsive in the hand, perfect for a number of situations. It’s no high-capacity airsoft machine platform but it’s not a bolt rifle either, and it fills the void very admirably. One more thing to note: if you like this rifle, then you should check out the VFC Avalon VR16 Calibur Carbine that you can find here on our site, that offers a lot of the features of this rifle in a package that is only slightly smaller.

VFC Avalon VR16 A5 Saber Airsoft SBR AEG

This VFC Avalon Saber is also an M4 AEG variant like the rifle above and features some similar specs as well as some unique design features that make it even more compact and responsive. That much is evident even by taking a short glance at the rifle, but we’re going to get a lot more in-depth with this overview.

In truth, the main difference between this rifle and a larger VR16 is the fact that the barrel and M-Lok handguard are commensurately shorter, and so this platform brings along all of the features you might already love in the platform. It has the metal receiver, barrel, and handguard as well as a fully upgradable, all-metal gearbox and high-torque motor that are designed for heavy use and unflinching performance. It has similar muzzle velocity as well as an adjustable hop-up to make the platform more serviceable over longer distances which is something you might not expect from an airsoft electric gun of this size. It also comes with flip-up sights and a QRS crane style collapsible stock and a pistol grip, so you can fit the airsoft rifle to your dimensions and maintain steady control over the sight picture.

The similarities continue, but what really makes this high-quality rifle stand apart is its compact size that makes it so noticeable in the first place. The rifle above is an already very adaptive and responsive platform, but this rifle stands apart for that. Not quite small enough to be concealable, it is still highly maneuverable and much more powerful than smaller sidearms that would otherwise take its place - not to mention the fact that it is also more reliable and generally has a higher capacity. Its size means that you will not only experience less fatigue carrying it all day but that you will be able to utilize it more efficiently in close quarters battles and combat. That’s all something to keep in mind when you are evaluating the different options at your disposal.

VFC Avalon MK18 Airsoft Carbine AEG

This rifle stands somewhere between the first two options explored here and delivers performance that is likewise between the two. It’s another great choice for those who want a carbine that not only looks great but performs just as well as it looks. This rifle may be the ticket for those players, delivering solid performance and a lot of customizability at the end of it all too.

Like the other VFC rifles on this list, the MK18 comes with a metal and polymer construction, so it is remarkably tough but also surprisingly lightweight. That can be a bonus in situations where you have to carry the rifle over harsh country, such as in MilSim matches, during long periods of time, and even more of a bonus during CQB encounters where weight and maneuverability can make the entire difference between success and failure.

As far as its fire selector, it has a safe mode as well as semi and fully automatic modes, so you can be prepared for just about any situation that you are liable to encounter. It has an adjustable stock so you can get a perfect fit, which will also make a big difference when it comes to gaining an advantage in the field. In addition, this rifle comes with a Daniel Defense Rail, which is somewhat similar to a quad rail and covers the forward portion of the barrel in the form of a handrail. There is a significant amount of space on this rail, and anyone who has not yet become a fan of the M-Lok handrails common on some airsoft rifles will appreciate this. With it, you can easily mount optics like scopes and reflex sights as well as lights, lasers, or saddles to hold some of your other gear.

VFC H&K MP7 Airsoft SMG AEG

This VFC H&K MP7 AEG by Elite Force is by far the most compact option on this list and brings with it a unique number of advantages, that, depending on how you look at it, some of the other rifles just can’t offer.

Naturally, a lot of this becomes a matter of tastes, so take some time to evaluate the unique features and advantages of this platform before you make up your own mind on the matter.

This platform is composed of a full metal receiver that incorporates a collapsible stock. Don’t be fooled by the picture above - that stock can extend to create a total length of over 22 inches, which is still very compact but can add a lot of stability to the platform when time and accuracy matter the most. As you can tell, there isn’t a lot of room for the stock to go anywhere, so it adds almost no weight - it’s just a single tube that collapses into the body of the rifle. Adding to that is the flip-up hand grip at the front of the rifle underneath the barrel, which can offer a lot of stability, just like the collapsible stock.

It has flip-up front and rear sights that will fold down out of the way when you don’t need them but can be put into action when you do. Also, as you can tell from the picture, it has a significant portion of rail system above the receiver for mounting optics if you prefer those advantages.

It packs slightly less power than the other rifles on this list, offering muzzle velocities slightly below 300 FPS, but with the number of other features it packs this is hardly even noticeable. Perhaps most interesting about its design is the fact that it is so light and compact that it can almost be used as a pistol instead of a rifle, which, with its high rate of fire, makes it almost the most serviceable option for CQB on this list. In fact, it’s nearly small enough to be carried as a sidearm in addition to one of the other VFC rifles mentioned here.
