Introducing the Action Army AAP-01C Shinobi GBB Airsoft Pistol

Jun 19th 2023

For those of you that are hot to get an Action Army AAP-01, save it till you read the end of this post. The folks at Action Army are out with something new and possibly better: the AAP-01C.

The Action Army AAP-01C retains most of the desirable features of the original AAP-01, with a few upgraded features and selling points.

One is the expanded room for airsoft accessories. The AAP-01C features sections of rail above and below the barrel, built into the design.

This means there’s plenty of room for airsoft attachments, and room for a light or laser and an optic - or some other combo, if you prefer that.

The AAP-01C is also made with a much shorter upper, making it more compact than the original AAP-01. This, in turn, makes it quicker and even snappier than its predecessor.

If you’re a snub-nose fan, this is likely the airsoft pistol for you.

There are a few other things that are cool about the AAP-01C that are different from the original. In addition to being smaller and shorter, the AAP-01C features stippling along the sides of the grip and a scale texture at the rear. The fire controls are also at the back of the pistol, on the bolt, making them easy to access, even if you are wearing gloves.

                  AAP-01C

Unlike many GBB airsoft pistols, in which the entire slide operates according to blowback action, this one features a gas-operated bolt. The frame/receiver does not move during operation.

This is not just an addition to the cool factor of this platform, but is actually functional as well. This design minimizes reciprocating mass and incurs less wear and tear on the pistol overall, while retaining the realism of a gas blowback operation. (They’re sort of modeled, in a way, after Ruger Mk IV pistols.)

With that said, the AAP-01C retains a lot of the features of the original which should make this design fairly familiar to those that have used the AAP-01, even though it is an upgrade.

For one, it retains the lightweight polymer receiver, and is also compatible with most other AAP-01 accessories and parts - so, for the most part, if you can use it on the original, you can use it on the Shinobi - including compatible with various G-series airsoft magazines.

(This also means that the AAP-01C Shinobi is compatible with a lot of the AAP-01 upgrades we’ve mentioned in the past. Check out our previous blog, Airsoft Attachments and Ammo for Your Action Army AAP-01.)

The design of the Shinobi utilizes Marui’s new quick-adjust hop seat. Just be aware, that these GBB airsoft pistols come with the hop-up turned off, so hop must be applied before you use them.

Also, they feature unsurprisingly durable construction, just like the originals. They feature a nylon fiber body/frame, along with a steel bolt latch, zinc alloy housings, nylon fiber loading nozzles, and G18 antifreeze rubber - making them good in the cold, too.

As with the AAP-01, the Shinobi is blazing fast. It offers a ridiculously high rate of fire (on full-auto) and can produce muzzle velocities between 290 and 320 FPS with .2g airsoft ammo. Of course, for greater accuracy, stability, and range, you might want to shoot heavier ammo.

Q&A: Action Army AAP-01 and AAP-01C

1.What action is the Action Army AAP-01C based on?

The AAP-01C is based on Mk IV series-style pistols.

2.Does the AAP-01C have a threaded barrel?

No, if you want to add airsoft muzzle devices, you’ll need to install a threaded barrel.

3. How fast is the AAP-01C?

The AAP-01C can produce muzzle velocities between 290 and 320 FPS, give or take, depending on the weight of your airsoft ammo.

4. How much does the AAP-01C weigh?

With the mag inserted, the AAP-01C Shinobi weighs 670g (1.477 lbs), which is actually 20g or so heavier than the original.

5. Is the Action Army AAP-01 green gas or CO2?

Both the AAP-01 and AAP-01C Shinobi are powered by green gas, but produce a good deal of snappy recoil.

6. What weight airsoft ammo should I use with an AAP-01?

At short ranges, users report that groupings with .2g BBs are acceptable, though it doesn’t do great at longer ranges. We recommend at least .28g BBs if you’re going to play with it competitively or use it in an airsoft event.
