What Should Come with an Airsoft Starter Kit And What Else to Get as a Beginner

May 24th 2021

If you aren’t sure where to start if you’re really green and new to airsoft, a good way to jump into it headfirst is with an airsoft starter kit. More often than not, a starter kit will come with everything you need to learn how to use an airsoft gun, as well as some helpful peripheral gear.

Here’s what an airsoft beginner’s kit should come with, and if it doesn’t we’ve thrown in some bonuses so you can be better prepared when you get into it, whether you just want to be a plinkster or you have your eye on MilSim and competitive play.

1.An airsoft gun that is easy to use and tough

Obviously, you can play airsoft without an airsoft gun. The starter kit should come with an airsoft gun, whether you opt for an AEG or you want to become a team’s sniper. Either way, this is a whole new level of basics. We won’t tell you what type of airsoft gun to buy, but if you’d like a recommendation, call us at 888-581-6620.

2.A sidearm

Guess what - an airsoft starter kit should also come with another gun, at least provided that the main one was an airsoft rifle or shotgun. In CQB, an airsoft pistol can save a match, even if you usually lean heavily on your main airsoft rifle. Plus, two are one and one is none. You can’t go into a match without being prepared.

3.A warranty

Depending on what airsoft beginner’s kit catches your attention, it might also come with a warranty. Therefore, if you do something with your airsoft gun that you shouldn’t have, or a part fails, you might be able to get some help.

4.Ammo and power or propellant

An airsoft gun needs ammo and power or propellant. It’s tough to know just what ammo an airsoft gun can shoot, since many can shoot more than one weight, so with a starter kit, we pick for you. We also typically complete the package either with gas canisters (for gas guns) or a battery and a charger, for electric guns. Picking out batteries is tough, too, so we lift some of that weight for you with a starter kit.

5.The potential for upgrades

Many of our starter kits come with the ability for you to choose upgrades and attachments with them. For example, few players shoot an AEG without a reflex sight or some kind of optics, so we offer these types of add-ons as part of our starter kits.

What Else?

The above covers most of what comes with most airsoft starter kits, but it does not paint the whole picture.

1.Protective equipment

In addition to an airsoft gun and some basic accessories, you should also invest in protective gear. At a minimum, that means a pair of good, impact-resistant glasses that are appropriate for airsoft. Eye protection is a necessity in a match, but you should wear it all the time. Ricochets can be dangerous.

Also, you might want to pick up some tactical pants, a jacket, and some impact-rated gloves. These will offer you better protection and keep you comfortable in a match.

2.A vest

A tactical vest is a wise investment for anyone that seriously wants to get into competitive airsoft. It will give you a place to store and organize all of your equipment, and believe us when we tell you that if you get into it, you’re going to have a lot of it.

3.Spare mags

If you shoot a semi-auto (who doesn’t) you should invest in several spare mags that you can keep in your vest. A spare, loaded mag could be the difference between an engagement that is won and one that is lost.

4.Extra ammo, batteries, or propellant

So your starter kit comes with airsoft ammo and propellant or a battery and a charger. We say that isn’t good enough. Get plenty of spare ammo; you can’t use it again. Pair that up with a spare propellant or a spare battery.

5.Attachments that will be useful with your firearm of choice

Finally, think about the niche you intend to occupy as an airsoft player. A sniper might need a high-powered scope with variable magnification. If you carry an AEG, you might need a red dot sight and a tactical light. Think about what you need - we have it.
