These Airsoft Guns Were Featured in Movies and TV Shows (Or Are Based Off Models That Were)

Jul 11th 2023

Little did you know some of your favorite characters from movies and TV shows were actually carrying airsoft guns.

Well, in some cases, they were carrying replicas, or similar airsoft guns to which we carry here. Airsoft gear and guns make a natural pairing with professional filming because they lessen the risk of handling real firearms, and require less training to be used in a safe manner.

Take a look at the following and see if recognize any of these.

John Wick Chapter Four: TTi JW4 Pit Viper

During the filming of John Wick Chapter Four, many of the characters and stuntmen used airsoft guns and prop guns.

Perhaps the most famous platform from the movie is a handgun carried by Reeves’ character, the titular John Wick, a Taran Tactical Innovations (TTi) Pit Viper, designed by competitive shooter and shooting instructor Taran Butler.

We carry a replica of this platform here at MiR Tactical: a TTi-branded JW4 Pit Viper Hi-Capa airsoft pistol.

The “V2” finish of this airsoft gun simulates the black finish on the frame and slide of the original, it features a steel hammer and internals, a TTi magwell that improves reload speeds, and a TTi signature “Ghost Profile” rear sight, among other accents.

It’s also powerful; powered by green gas, it can reach muzzle velocities of up to 370 FPS.

The Walking Dead

If you watched The Walking Dead, then get ready: many of the guns featured on the set were in fact airsoft guns.

To be fair, there are tons of weapons, some improvised, used in The Walking Dead, and not all of them are guns.

However, here are some models that are featured prominently in the series:

  • Rick’s signature Colt Python
  • Shane’s Mossberg 590 Persuader with a pistol grip
  • Steyr Aug STG77
  • AK-47 (check out our collection of E&L Airsoft AK replicas)
  • Dale’s Remington 700 VLS

This doesn’t cover them all - but it makes a good start.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. also used airsoft guns in its props, among the most prominently featured of which are modeled after Smith & Wesson M&P Shields, Smith & Wesson Bodyguard 380 pistols, Beretta 92FS pistols, and Colt M1911A1 pistols.

Speaking of the latter, one of the more noticeable models in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is an I.C.E.R. (Incapacitating Cartridge Emitting Rail Gun) Pistol, which looks like a super-compact 1911.

The props used for the movie were actually WE Hi-Capa 3.8C airsoft pistols, very similar to the one you can find at the previous link.

In addition to these, the movie also featured countless other weapons platforms, including Remington 870 and Winchester M1897 shotguns, Colt M4A1 carbines, M1 Garand rifles, HK MP5A3 subguns, and Walther PPK and Glock 19 pistols, among many others.

Salt

If you’ve seen the movie Salt, which centers around the eponymous heroine, Evelyn Salt, a CIA agent portrayed by Angelina Jolie, then perhaps you remember a scene in which her boss trains a Sig Sauer P229 at a door she’s trying to enter.

Except it’s not a P229; it’s a KJW P229.

We carry KJW accessories via the link above, but not this exact airsoft replica. We do, however, carry a Sig-branded P229 that’s a close second, if you like the prop from that movie.

28 Weeks Later

Airsoft guns feature prominently in 28 Weeks Later, which centers around a British family’s attempts to survive after a deadly virus has inspired panic across the island.

Some of the most noticeable uses of airsoft guns in this movie are M4-style airsoft rifle replicas, specifically Colt M4A1 CQBR platforms. Classic Army M4-style rifles also make a showing in this film.

Punisher: War Zone

This one’s a unique one: while the M4 style carbine wielded by Frank Castle in Punisher: War Zone, may have been real, there’s a unique prop he used in the film that was most certainly a piece of airsoft hear: a MADBULL AQX grenade launcher.

Terminator 2: Judgment Day: Winchester M1887

Do you remember that “mare’s leg” shotgun Arnold carries around in Terminator 2: Judgment Day? That’s a Winchester M1887 lever-action shotgun.

We don’t have an exact replica, but our Golden Eagle Sawed-Off 870 is a pretty close second. It’s a pump action, not a lever action, though.
