What to Look for in a Glock 19 Airsoft Pistol
Nov 23rd 2020
Whatever your strategic role is to your airsoft team, you could always profit from the addition of a quality sidearm. Snipers need them, infantry players who carry AEGs need them, even players who serve as support roles like communications need them. You might as well add a good one to your holster or your vest. It could come in handy, and things that come in handy win matches.
Now, we don’t presume to own all of the original information out there, and we encourage you to lean on your own experience first. Still, if you decide to go with a Glock 19 airsoft pistol like one of the airsoft replicas that you can find here on our website, here are some of the things you should look for or otherwise consider in your purchase decision.
1.Tough, reliable construction.
It doesn’t matter how cool or accurate an airsoft gun looks if it can’t walk the walk. There are plenty of cheap, poorly made replicas out there - none that you’ll find at MiR Tactical - but that’s something to be wary of nonetheless.
Look for things like rugged, injection-molded polymer constructions or aluminum alloy slides, just as a quick example. These things will go a long way towards preserving the integrity of the airsoft gun in the long run.
2.A smooth, dependable action.
A smooth, dependable action is also paramount to the performance of the airsoft pistol. It’s also important to take into account what it is that powers the pistol. A lot of players prefer CO2 because it gives a lot of power. At the same time, green gas is a lot easier on the gun, and some green gas mixtures come with lubricant. It’s just anecdotal, but a lot of green gas guns seem like they’re just “smoother” than CO2 actions. That’s up to you, though.
3.Fair capacity, or compatibility with other hi-cap mags
Since you’ll also be relying on this sidearm in a match, it has to have the right capacity. While most replicas come with mags that hold somewhere around 20 rounds of 6mm airsoft BBs, many of them are also compatible with other airsoft magazines that hold a lot more, around 50 rounds or even higher. That can be very useful in a match.
4.An adjustable hop-up
Most engagements that will cause you to reach for your sidearm will occur at ranges that would have you forgetting that hop-ups were even a thing. Still, if you ever need to draw your airsoft pistol and need to reach out, an adjustable hop-up can make you more effective - provided it has been tuned and adjusted before the match.
5.A quality magazine that feeds reliably
In addition to the importance of capacity, a tough magazine with good internals that feeds reliably is also critically important in a match. The match itself is no time to discover that your mag has deformed under stress or pressure and will not work.
That’s slightly hyperbolic, but what isn’t exaggeratory is the fact that some mags have cheap springs and don’t feed reliably. When you’re working with a mag that doesn’t feed reliably, you need to cut back on the projected number of rounds that it will serve you. If the internals of your mag fails, then you might as well be shooting with the muzzleloader of the airsoft world - not a good look in an engagement.
6.Accessory rails
Additionally, some Glock 19 airsoft pistols come with accessory rails already built into their design, usually somewhere on the trigger guard. This doesn’t just make the airsoft gun look cool. It makes the person carrying it more effective. Adding tactical lights or laser sights to your pistol can give you the edge in dark, CQB encounters.
7.Good power
We’re back to the CO2 versus green gas conundrum. Again, in a close-quarters match, power might not matter too much, but it is important to recognize that despite the harshness of the pistol, CO2 tends to generate higher muzzle velocities that can give you the edge over the distance.
There’s more you might want to account for, but this is a good place to start. If you can find a Glock 19 airsoft pistol that hits on all of these points, you can basically bet it’s going to serve you well in a match.
Besides the Glock 19 replicas we offer here at MiR Tactical, we also provide several lines of other Glock airsoft replicas such as Glock 17 and 18s, along with plenty of accessories. Whether you’re looking for a GBB airsoft pistol or even a spring-powered airsoft gun, we’re your stop.
