Top Picks from VFC Avalon

Feb 16th 2021

VFC Avalon reigns supreme in the minds of many airsoft players. Everyone from backyard plinksters who just buy these things to have fun with them to serious MilSim competitors has at one time or other praised the virtues of VFC Avalon’s top picks, many of which we will feature here in this article.

They are tough, they are dependable, they work well under the heat of pressure. They have high-quality internals and plenty of room for upgrades. They have tons of room for attachments and many of them can be easily fixed when something goes wrong. Plus, they shoot straight, reach far, and look downright cool.

Just in case you needed one more thing to love about the brand, then you might as well know that they aren’t too expensive either. There are other airsoft guns out there (specifically airsoft electric guns, AEGs) that are double or triple the price and offer similar performance. There might even be some more expensive models that aren’t as good as some of these.

Either way, airsoft pistols, and shotguns aside, here are some of the top picks from our collection of VFC Avalon AEGs with a deep dive into some of the features and value that each of them offers.

VFC Avalon VR16 Carbine Saber AEG

Starting this list off right is a perennial favorite from VFC, the VR16 Carbine Saber which is a variant of the immensely popular VR16 line of AEGs. The Saber Carbine pairs a lot of value and hard-hitting functionality with its cool looks.

This AEG is from 31.5 to 35 inches long, depending on how you have adjusted the stock, and comes in at 6 pounds and 5 ounces. It’s heavy enough to be stable in the hand without overbearing, and the length is short enough to be practical in CQB encounters - but the length and weight are just the beginning of the specifics, and boring ones at that.

It’s available in two colors, being black and FDE, and it is built like a tank. It features full metal receiver construction as well as a metal barrel assembly and an aluminum M-LOK rail handguard with a full-length top rail and 4 inches of quad rail space forward by the muzzle.

It also has a version 2 full metal fully upgradeable gearbox, which is a huge bonus in this space. Lesser AEGs may be made with polymer and plastic internals which can shear, break, deform or melt under heat and pressure. You won’t have that problem with this AEG.

It’s also adjustable; it comes with a Crane Style collapsible QRS stock, flip-up front and rear sights, and an adjustable hop-up system so you can cue in on accuracy and range. In terms of power, this rifle can reach muzzle velocities up to 400 FPS with 6mm BBs - blazing fast for an AEG.

This only scratches the surface of some of the value of this VFC Avalon Series favorite. If you want to learn more about this popular rifle, visit our product page via the link above or contact our customer service team.

VFC Avalon VR16 A5 Calibur SBR AEG

The VR16 Calibur A5 is modeled after the Calibur Carbine but comes in an even more compact package which is highly useful in high-stress, fast-moving situations where you need a quick, responsive platform that is dependable, balanced, and accurate.

It’s also lighter than the VFC model mentioned above, coming in at 5 pounds, 8 ounces, and obviously shorter; this airsoft AEG can be brought down to just over 26 inches (26.25”) with the stock collapsed all the way. You can also key in on the length of pull; it is adjustable out to nearly 30 inches of total length. One size doesn’t fit all; VFC gets it.

It also is made with a full metal body, along with a metal barrel assembly and a keymod handguard. In addition to the forward quad keymod, it also features a full-length top rail that runs the length of the receiver.

This M16/ M4 AEG, with its modular stock, adequate handguard, and pistol grip is built for CQB and is amazingly agile and responsive, but that doesn’t mean it wants for power.

It also has a full metal, upgradeable gearbox and is capable of the same power that the above rifle offers, only in a smaller size. It can reach muzzle velocities of up to 400 FPS with 6mm BBs, which is, again, very fast.

It also has an adjustable hop-up and a long type motor so you can really reach out for the long game when you need to cover ground and make your shots count. Some other smaller “sub-compact” airsoft rifles might leave you wondering what else they could offer. This one won’t.

VFC Avalon Block II AEG

This Elite Force VFC Airsoft Rifle is a little bit larger than the models mentioned above and has a longer barrel to give it more weight-forward that some airsoft players really might appreciate and prefer.

Like the other VFC models highlighted here so far, this one comes with an all-metal receiver and barrel assembly, and absolutely tons of room on its full-length quad rail system. That’s one of the key features of this AEG. It has an absolutely mind-boggling amount of room on its rail system. Want to add a saddle for accessories or spare mags? Check. Want to add a light or a laser sight? Check. Simply want to add a scope or a red dot sight? No problem.

It also has flip-up metal sights and an adjustable stock, making this a truly modular platform that you can tailor to your needs. Like many other M4 and M16 style AEGs, this one is compatible with accessories built for those platforms.

In terms of power and batteries, this AEG is also blazing fast, with a smaller range of performance. It sends airsoft BBs downrange at velocities between 380 to 399 FPS, putting it at the higher end of the spectrum.

It takes a nunchuck style battery and most should fit, however, it does not come with either a battery or a charger. However, it does come with a midcap magazine and a full one year warranty.

Looking for a larger AEG platform styled after the M4 that will make a bigger impression and roll with the hard hits of the field? This might be the one for you. Or you could get a carbine and one of these. There’s nothing wrong with that.

VFC Avalon Sopmod AEG

Another excellent VFC AEG is the VFC Sopmod AEG that you can see via the link above. Like the other highlights on this list, this rifle is built to take a beating and keep on delivering a solid performance.

It has an all-metal receiver, barrel assembly, and RIS, along with a steel one point sling adapter so you can easily carry it along with your other gear in a match. Since we haven’t mentioned this before, it’s a good idea to pick up a sling for your AEG since it will free up your hands to carry other gear and equipment.

Back to the Sopmod: at just over 6 pounds and around 35 inches at full length (it also has a collapsible stock) it’s right in the middle of the road in terms of size. It’s neither one of those full-stocked old-school style infantry rifles nor a compact-compact carbine.

It has a full-length rail along the top of the receiver and a section of quad rail around the forward section of the barrel for mounting accessories, and it even comes with a mock-bolt catch which actually enables you to make easy and quick adjustments to your hop-up system.

The fire selector gives you the ability to switch between safe, semi, and fully automatic modes of fire and it comes with a 120 round mid-cap magazine, although you can get high cap magazines that will work with it just fine.

VFC Avalon Gladius AEG

The VFC Avalon Gladius SBR AEG is one for the record books, just in terms of versatility, although it’s also unbelievably tough. It has a full metal receiver and barrel assembly as well as a full metal Keymod handguard for the mounting of optics and other accessories, in addition to its full-length rail on the top of the receiver.

Now for versatility. This AEG has an ambidextrous fire selector switch (also enabled safe, semi and fully automatic fire), a QRS adjustable stock, and a QRS motor grip. It also comes with a full metal Avalon gearbox as well as a quick change spring system.

It also has a one-point sling adapter, a detachable rear sight for slimming down room on the rail at the rear of the receiver, and a mock bolt catch for easy hop-up adjustment, like the above model. Basically, it’s built to be an ergonomic machine.

It comes in just a little shy as far as velocity is concerned, with muzzle velocities of about 390 FPS, which is still so fast you’ll probably never notice the difference anyway. It comes with a mid-cap 120 round magazine, although it is compatible with many other M4/M16 style magazines from VFC, Tokyo Marui, and other makers.

If you’re looking for an AEG that is adaptable, adjustable, can take a lot of attachments and upgrades, and is also neither too light nor too heavy, this is not one you’ll want to miss.

VFC Avalon MK18 AEG

Finally, we’re going to take a good look at the VFC Avalon MK18 AEG which is another great highlight from the Avalon series airsoft guns on our website. Like the others we’ve hand-selected for review, this one is worthy of a moment of your time.

Unsurprisingly, it features all-metal construction and like the other models mentioned here is remarkably tough. It also has a quick change spring system and an adequate section of quad rail surrounding the handguard. There’s plenty of room on here to mount attachments and accessories like optics. It also has flip-up sights that fold out of the way when you need extra space.

What hasn’t been noted yet is that this AEG has a flat-faced trigger for better engagement and traction along with a high torque motor for faster, smoother cycling and higher rates of fire. As you might have guessed, it comes with an upgradeable, all-metal gearbox so you’re covered for high performance.

Knowing all of this, it really just comes down to a matter of preference. Do you want to choose this AEG or one of the other models we have already covered?
